Sue Nelson

Sue Nelson of Ipswich received the 2010 Mary P. Conley award for her years of service in protecting and restoring historic properties in Ipswich.  She is the first person to win the award, which usually honors a preserved structure. Sue was a member of the Ipswich Historical Commission for six years and helped write the town’s demolition delay bylaw. Her efforts have contributed to the preservation of the Heard House, the Whipple House and the Abner Harris-Captain Ebenezer Sutton House on Water Street.  Sue’s “Partial List of Historic Buildings” and  “First and Second Period Houses” are  invaluable resources for this web site.

Nelson has a Masters degree in historic preservation from Boston University. Sue has served as a trustee of the Ipswich Museum and is an active member.
